WE ARE

FERAL

Origins

Feral Productions was founded in 1979 by three machinists working out of a modest 1,000-square-foot shop in Newark, California. Their early clients included names like Memorex and Peterbilt Motors – companies that demanded precision, reliability, and fast turnaround.

The name “Feral” comes from a combination of ferrous metals (FER) and aluminum (AL), the two materials the team specialized in during those early years.

By 1983, the shop had expanded into a larger space and began serving the telecommunications and defense industries. Around that time, Mikhail Raikavitch became the sole owner, guiding the company through decades of steady growth.

Expansion and Evolution

In 1997 Mikhail retired, turning ownership over to Robert Potts. Bob had joined Feral in 1981 as its first employee, starting as a part-time delivery driver before learning the machining trade and becoming an integral part of the company’s long-term success.

As demand increased, Feral scaled up, adding two more production sites to support new work in biotechnology and environmental tech. In 2008, operations were consolidated into a newly built plant that tripled capacity.

That momentum continued in 2016, when Feral relocated to Tracy, California, moving into a 17,000-square-foot facility outfitted with advanced CNC equipment and space to grow both team and capability.

Where We Are Today

In 2023, James Potts acquired Feral Productions, bringing with him over 15 years of manufacturing experience, a business degree, and a background in advanced manufacturing from his time at Nike, Inc.

JP got his start in the industry working at Feral in his early years, learning the business from the ground up – running machines, sweeping floors, and gaining the kind of knowledge you can only get through real, hands-on experience.

Today, Feral is focused on strategic growth by investing in modern systems, streamlining workflows, and building long-term partnerships across multiple industries. While technology and industries continue to evolve, our core values remain the same:

Precision. Responsiveness. Craftsmanship.
